If you're a woman of childbearing potential with plans to have a child this the combination HDHP and HSA plan
may not be for you. You should pick a plan with good outpatient benefits so that you can receive the
appropriate screening tests as well as hospital care as you may need.

The cost for routine outpatient visits prior to and following delivery can rapidly exceed any savings in your
health savings account.  This is specially true since many pregnancies begin in one year and end in another
one would have to exhaust two and not just one year's deductible before being able to receive any insurance
reimbursement for any medical services. Blue Shield does offer a HDHP that can be combined with an HSA
that does cover an annual screening visit with a $35 co-pay. This may be a viable option for women of
childbearing age who are not planning on having a baby for at least 2 years.
